Choices Contract Student Curriculum

The following is a list of topics covered for contracted students of Choices College Counseling:

Choices College and Career Counseling offers the following for a full-service contract.  Students meet regularly with the counselor starting at the end of junior year and follow the curriculum.

The purpose of this curriculum is to prepare juniors and rising seniors for their college application process.  It is a self-reflective process so that students will have the opportunity to know more about themselves, and what they are looking for in a college experience.

Curriculum:

-         College planning goals and role of the student in the process

-         Learning styles assessments

-         Personality/interest assessment (MBTI for high school students)

-         College environment inventory

-         Creating a personal profile/resume

-         Preparing for interviews (prep questions + student questions)

-         Conducting an internet search of appropriate colleges

-         Registering for SAT, ACT and SAT Subject Exams

-         Reading college view books and catalogs

-         Steps to thinking about a good college major

-         How college financial aid works

-         Scholarship searches and merit money

-         Brainstorming essay topics

-         Essay workshop by Andrea Rifkin and Dr.Ljliana Cocklin UCSB  professor of freshman writing

-         Creating a college list with timelines

-         Maintaining a senior ‘To Do’ list

-         Completing the UC and Common App

-         Selecting writers for letters of recommendation

-         How to send transcripts electronically

-         What to do after applications are submitted
